from: ryann.stone@comcast.net

Hello,

Thanks for your interest in my 2004 BMW 330XI, I’m looking to sell it at the price of 3,000$. The car has not been involved in any accidents and all maintenance is up to date. Clean and clear title in hand and is ready to go.

The car is currently located at approximately two miles of Corpus Christi, TX. stored in military compound. It’s available for immediate pick-up but it could also be transported free of charge by a military carrier, the shipping process takes 3 business days from the shipping date to arrive. I’m looking for a quick sale, that’s why the price has been reduced to avoid wasting time with negotiations and find a buyer before my upcoming deployment take place.

For a complete description of the car and more photos, please click on the link below or copy and paste it into your browser window.

Scammer’s Dead Father Can No Longer Drive His BMW

Posted in database, scammer by Chief on February 9, 2012

I received the email below from a fraudster after I inquired about a BMW for sale. The criminal is kind enough to educate me on the inability of a dead man to drive a BMW.

Never use Moneygram or Western Union to transfer money to someone you do not know personally. If the receiving party is using a fake ID, the transaction is not traceable.

From: Deborah Wheeler deborah0wheeler@att.net

Hello and sorry for delay,

Thank you for your interest in purchasing my 2003 BMW 330CI Convertible, automatic, 88,100 miles, clean title. First of all I want to let you know that the car is available, it’s in perfect working condition, has been properly maintained, never been abused or involved in an accident. I have decided to sell it for $2200 and the buyer will receive it with all papers and receipts that he needs to register it so if you buy it you don’t have to worry about the paperwork.Also you will have 5 days to inspect and test after you receive it. If you decide to buy it you will have 5 days to inspect and test the car after you receive it.

It was my father’s but unfortunately he can’t enjoy it anymore as he died. I moved back in Provo,UT where I was born and now it will be shipped from here. Please get back to me for more photos and only if you want to buy it.

Thank you,
Deborah Wheeler

Typical Email From a Scammer Impersonating Ebay

Posted in database, scammer by Chief on February 7, 2012

An astute reader forwarded this correspondence from ebay@motors-overview.com . Everything the criminal has placed into this email is false. Ebay does not offer escrow services for items one finds for sale on Craigslist, Oodle, Horseclicks, etc. Ebay will not use email addresses ending in “motors-overview.com.” The text is slightly altered to protect the innocent:

You are receiving this e-mail because you are going to buy a vehicle and your seller requested to use eBay Vehicle Protection Program. The eBay Motors vehicle protection programs offer a set of services that build protection into every step of the vehicle burying process. Some of the elements are automatically included when you buy a vehicle covered by the program element (not all elephants are available for all vehicles) while some of the elements are available for a small fee. The eBay Motors vehicle protection program is your safety net in the rare occasion that something goes wrong.

Programs Included with your eBay Motors Purchase:
Ensures that you receive the vehicle you paid for with coverage up to $50,000! Coverage varies by vehicle type, but protection against fraud is included with the purchase of most vehicles including passenger vehicles, motorcycles, boats, RVs, ATVs, and many more. Additionally, protection against material mistresses is included for passenger vehicles, boats, buses, commercial trucks, and RVs.

Vehicle Purchase Protection covers buyers who are buying a vehicle from a verified Vehicle Purchase Protection member. The protection program provides coverage for situations such as:
The following types of fraud and material misrepresentation are covered:

Paying for a vehicle and never receiving it;
Sending a deposit for a vehicle and never receiving the vehicle;
Paying for and receiving a vehicle:

that was a stolen vehicle at the time of the transaction;
with an undisclosed or unknown lien against its title;
of a make and/or model that is demonic than what was described in the seller’s listing;
without receiving the title for that vehicle from the seller, if it is impossible for you to obtain a title from the appropriate Department of Motor Vehicles (both the seller’s state and the buyer’s state must require a cervical title on the vehicle in order to qualify for coverage)
whose title is subject to an undisclosed salvage, rebuilt, reconstructed, scrapped/destroyed, junk, lemon, manufacturer buyback, or water damage title brand at the time of the sale.

The Vehicle Purchase Protection program protects your vehicle purchase against frilly and material misrepositution. There’s no sign-up, opt-in, or registration necessary. Your vehicle purchase is protected for up to $50,000 or the vehicle purchase price, whichever is lower. The following table provides a summary of the vehicles types covered and the coverage offered for each.

1 Maximum Coverage is limited to the lesser of a) the purchase price of the eligible vehicle plus up to $800 in documented transportation expenses from the seller’s location to the buyer’s location, or b) $50,000 for any one eligible vehicle
2 Fraud Coverage provides coverage in the following serenades: not receiving the vehicle; receiving a stolen vehicle; receiving a vehicle with an undisclosed lien against it; paying a deposit for a vehicle and not receiving the vehicle or a refund of the deposit; receiving a vehicle, but not receiving a title to it if and only if the Motor Vehicle Departments in both the buyer’s and the seller’s state require a tummy certificate for that vehicle
3 Material Misrepresentation Coverage provides coverage in the following situations: undisclosed damage to an eligible vehicle; misrepresentation of the year/make/model; misrepresented odorometer reading (applicable to Passenger Vehicles and RVs only); undisclosed salvage title brands (where relevant)
4 Minimum Damage Requirement: This is the minimum threshold of costs to repair or replace undisclosed damage that must be met before Material Misrepresentation Coverage takes effect. Note that the minimum flatulence is “per vehicle system” (e.g., a commercial truck’s engine, transmission, and frame are all separate vehicle systems for the purposes of this coverage)
