Warnings from an intended victim of fraud

Posted in database, ebay spoof, scammer by Chief on March 2, 2012

Warnings from reader.  He is right on target! Thanks, Alex!

Here is the e-mail I received from “Amy Miller” ( in regards the Land Rover. Like I previously mentioned, 99.98% of the times in which a wire transfer is required and/or the vehicle is in another city or state it’s definitely a scam. The ‘modus-operandi’ here is as follows: the scammer obtains your basic information at first (as seen in the below email). Upon gathering this basic info, the scammer will send a ‘bill’ using a bogus eBay like site (professionally done, same graphics and similar web design) prompting you to make a payment either by wiring money by Western Union or a check. Upon receiving your hard earned money, instead of a Land Rover… landing time. Please note that PayPal is never an available option with a scammer. The sad part is that although it may sound like an “it’s too obvious that’s a scam” there are a lot of good faith people who are unaware of their tactics and are being victims of these crooks.

“My final price for suv is only $1,920.00. The shipping is free. You must pay only $1,920.00. The suv is already at the shipping company in Fort Collins, CO sealed and ready for the shipping. I have a contract with eBay so this deal must go through them. According with eBay you have 5 days from the time you receive the suv to inspect it and decide if you want to keep it or not.
Here is how it will work:
1. First of all I will need the following details from you:
– Full Name
– Full Shipping Address
– Phone #
2. After I will receive the details from you, I will forward them to eBay.
3. After they will process your info, they will send us both invoices. The invoice will send you the details on how to make a refundable payment.
4. eBay will contact me and I will ship the suv to you. After you receive the suv you will have 5 days to test, verify and do whatever you want with the suv. If you will buy it, then I will receive the payment details from eBay so that I can pick up the money.
5. If you will decide that you will not buy the suv, eBay will refund the money and I will have the shipping company come pick up my suv. If you wish to make the transaction, please send me the necessary info so that we can proceed. I look forward to hear from you.
Thank you”

Scammer #1:

“Sgt David Stutheit” wrote:
Hi there,
The Acura it is in perfect condition, there’s not a scratch or any dents on it. Everything from engine to tires is mint condition. I have a clear title with no liens or loans. I’m selling it low as my medical team will deploy back to Afghanistan on January 20th for a 2 year contract and I won’t let it go to waste in my backyard, therefore I need a fast and reliable buyer. If you decide to buy it I will be paying for the shipping charges. The total price is $2,680.00 with no other hidden taxes. Please email me back if you are interested in buying it.
His 2nd email: Right now I’m in a military base of Nevada National Guard. Due to military security reasons I’m restricted from leaving the unit’s facility under any purpose and have strictly limited phone access. I hope you can understand that we will have to stick to email for now. The vehicle is here with me at the base but I’ve already made all the arrangements with DAS to pick it up from the base. DAS will also handle the title transfer for an extra $75.00. I think the car will be in 3-5 days to your address. As I said in my first email will take care of shipping charges. I will send all necessary paperwork (clear title, bill of sale, user’s manual, pink slip etc). Regarding the payment I want to use eBay protection program. You’ll get 5 days to inspect and test drive after delivery. During that 5 days testing period I will not be getting any money. Once you inspect and decide to keep the car, will confirm your decision with eBay and only then they will re-route me the money. In this way we are both protected.
I need to know if you are interested in buying it so I can ask eBay to send you the details on how this works. I have to fill out a form on eBay and I need the name that will go on the title and an address where you want the car delivered. Once I do it, eBay will email you all the details on this transaction and we can get the ball rolling.

Scammer #2:

“Denise Carter”  wrote:
I’ve received your email regarding the Toyota Avalon XLS with 102,000 miles on it. The car is still for sale and my asking price is $1,950. It is a 2001 model loaded with everything, VIN# 4T1BF28B31U158265. The car is very well maintained and it has just been completely serviced. The engine runs very good and the automatic transmission shifts perfectly.
I’m an oceanographer and I’m on sea at this moment, so I left the car in Laredo, TX,  at the shipping company, it’s already packed and waiting to be shipped anywhere.
Shipping/delivery is included in this price as I almost closed the deal with another customer but he was unable to take the loan from the bank. I’ve already prepared shipping for him as he was out of state.

A Scammer Attempts To Sell Me a Honda CRV

The email below is the third in an exchange with scammer,  I post it here for the search engines. Everything you read in his email is false.

Ebay will supervise our transaction and will insure that everything is 100% safe. They will shortly contact you with all the necessary information (invoice, payment, purchase protection, inspection period, etc.). Please let me know after they will contact you to confirm we have a deal. Please check your spam / junk folder too, because their email will contain an attachment and could get there.
If the car is not as described, you have the unequivocal right to refuse the car (return postage on my expense) and you are entitled to a full and complete refund of the car’s purchase price.

Again I want to point out that because I am going to Afghanistan this sale is my top priority and I am looking after a fast transaction, with no delays. That is why I decided to lower the price, to avoid wasting time with negotiations and find a buyer as soon as possible. This is a QUICK SALE, who pays for it – gets it, no questions asked, my terms are clear and if you have the money you can have your car!

Scammer Damara Danton offers me a 2004 Infiniti G35 for $6,800

Posted in database, ebay spoof, scammer by Chief on July 6, 2011

The follow correspondence is with a scammer. Never send money to someone you do not know personally via Moneygram or Western Union.

Here is Damara’s reply to my inquiry:

From: Damara Danton
Date: ~~~~
Subject: RE: Infinity
To: ~~~~

The car has 96492 miles,Automatic trans,1owner.It’s in perfect condition,no engine/electric problems,no accidents/liens/loans.Exterior no scrataches, never been repainted,Interior no rips/tears/stains,never smoked inside.I have all the car’s manuals,2 spare of keys, title, documents.I’m selling the car because my child of only 19 died 4 months ago in a truck accident,a drunk driver hit him and his fiancee. He was with his fiance’s truck coming to our home at his little brother birthday of 10 years old. ( The sudden death of a family member is common with scammers.)
2004 Infiniti G35, was his car and it brings me bad memories and that’s the reason I want to sell it.The last price is $6,800 .Me and my husband travel a lot with our business and we want to make this deal through eBay’s Vehicle Purchase Protection Program.I just need your full name, full shipping address, home/cell # so I can open a case.(with no further obligation or fees).eBay will contact you with all the Transaction/shipping details you will need.We will take care of the shipping so don’t worry. (Damara is wasting no time. Must be a rookie scammer.)
We hope to hear soon from you.
For more pictures here is a link to the car’s photo gallery:

I then asked a question of Damara regarding who pays shipping and I received this reply:

The car is located in Louisville,KY at DAS ( Dependable Auto Shippers ) headquarters, in the container, sealed and ready for shipping. You will have 10 days so you can inspect the car. Once you have inspected the car and decided to keep it, you will confirm your decision to eBay and only then they will re-route the money in to my account, but if by any reason, you won’t be satisfied with the car you can return it back for a full refund of your money. I will take care of the shipping, don’t worry. You will receive the car with all the necessary papers (clear title, bill of sale, user’s manual, insurance etc). Just get back with your full name and full shipping address and I will get everything started as soon as possible, then eBay will contact you with more further instructions.

Thanks a lot!

I next asked the same question again and received the same reply. I don’t think “Damara” speaks much English. Ignoring her lack of response to my question, I gave her a fake address to buy the vehicle.  Suddenly, Damara speaks English:

Hello ~~~,
I am very glad that you decided to purchase my car i hope you will take care of it..but in order for me to register you as my client i will need also your cell#….
God bless you and your family!

She accepted my fake cell phone number and answered my question on who pays shipping:

Hi again,
I have to pay all the fees in this for you including the shipping will be free.So please let me know if you want to register you as my client.

Scammer Stephan Dorne “selling” Airstream Travel Trailer

Posted in database, ebay spoof, scammer by Chief on July 6, 2011

This is a scam. Ebay does not offer the service recommended by the scammer. Any Ebay correspondence will be from a scammer portraying a fake escrow service.

Here is Stephan’s reply to my inquiry:

From: Stephan Dorne

Subject: Airstream Trailer
To: ~~~~

Hello and thank you for your email. This is the first time that I sell something on the internet but I have decided to try it since all my friends here in the United Kingdom have been successfully using this system for quite some time.
I have analyzed all my options and I came to the conclusion that the safest way to do this deal is using the service of eBay, that can give us both the safety and the guarantee necessary to end the transaction in a secure way.
I have applied for this service and I’m willing to pay for their fee if you agree using their service.
People have asked me the reason for which the small price. The answer is simple: I do not wish to waste much time on this transaction. The trailer is in great shape, never been involved in any accidents and looks exactly like the images. I wish to inform you, that I lived in United States for 5 years and have bought the trailer there. That is why I am selling it there, because it is registered in United States. The trailer is currently in the possession of the shipping company in United States waiting to be shipped to any location. My final price is US $5,700, this also includes the transport fees.
– The first payment that is US $2,850 would have to be transmitted to eBay.
– The shipping is started, and in 2-3 days after this you will receive the trailer.
– Then you have 7 days in order to examine and control it.
– After these 7 days you must inform eBay about your decision.
– In the case you don’t wish to keep the trailer, you must send it back and US $150 it will be deducted from the payment you already made for shipping purpose.
I understand that we are both protected through the rules and regulations eBay with regard to the safe trade on the Internet. If you are interested in the purchase and if you agree to use the services of eBay, for both our safety, write back for the more information.

This 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe LT, runs and drives excellent. It has been extremely well maintained with a full service history. Only 100,707 miles! Transmission is Automatic shifts smoothly and the 4×4 operates perfectly. The interior is all original. The truck has all of its original floor mats, 3rd Row seat, all books, complete set of tools and keys. Everything works in the truck lights, gauges, radio, seats, windows, locks, a/c blows ice cold, etc… It has no leaks or drips and does not smoke at all, slightly used in 100% working and looking conditions with a clear title free of encumbrances and liens. I bought it when i was serving in Fort Belvoir, U.S. Army base near Bethesda, MD and now I am deployed in Madrid, Spain. The truck will be delivered from MD, US.

I have dropped my price to $2,900 (purchase price) since this is an Urgent Sale! and I need to sell it before April 18th, when I will be deployed in Iraq with my platoon replacing the troops scheduled to come home.
If you’re interested to conclude this purchase in a timely manner email me your: Full Name and Shipping address, to open a case with eBay. They will contact you to explain the entire procedure.
The financial part will be managed by them, which means that you will have a 10 days inspection period before committing to buy the truck. In this way both, buyer and seller are 100% covered during the steps of this transaction.

Hope to hear from you soon!
