Never use Moneygram or Western Union to transfer money to someone you do not know personally. If the receiving party is using a fake ID, the transaction is not traceable.  Note that criminals emulating Ebay will use fake email addresses such as e-bay-motors@accountant.com . Ebay representatives will use an email address ending in ebay.com.

Would you be willing to report scammers of this single make and model on a weekly basis? It’s a good feeling to know you’ve made a difference to a potential victim. I appreciate your considering this.

I’ve noticed that the scammers like to use the Chilean site dmtinc.cl for their image hosting.

    More scammer addresses:

While I have not filed abuse reports to dmtinc.cl, I have used a picture leech: http://logicalsolutions.freehostia.com/autospam.html

One must use a ton of bandwidth to get a rise out of providers these days 😦

I have been looking for a home to rent on Craigslist and have come across several scammers. Some say they are away on business in Africa and 2 others wanted all my information so they could do a check on me BEFORE they gave me the address. I told them to give me the address so I can do a check and make sure they were the owners…..yeah you guessed it, they never contacted me again…so I have been flagging posts on Craigslist like crazy. Here are the names:

    Cindy Miller cmiller.realestate@hotmail.com

    Carl Tyson awefolujilamyl@hotmail.com

    James Pat jamespat7791@yahoo.com

    Brian Smith is his name.

Will add more as they try to scam me lol…..

I, too, received a scam email from Cindy Miller (cmiller.realestate@hotmail.com) in response to my email asking for the address of a rental unit. Here’s her email:
    Hi,
I’m sorry for the delay! So many thing I had to do over the course of the last few days. The good news is that the unit is still available . There was a person who had serious interest in the rental, but he lost his job, so we need to start showing it again, as we want to get it rented immediately. Considering you had emailed us initially, regarding the property, we are giving you first right of refusal.

The unit is in excellent condition. We know a lot of prospective renters want to take a quick look at the property, regardless, our policy is not to divulge the address, as there are some lunatics in the world with bad intentions. The last time we gave out the address without verifying the prospective tenant. We don’t want that to happen again. I’ll confirm what you probably already know this property is gorgeous! A leasing like this would typically go for much more, but again, I need to lease it asap, which is why the lease rate is a tremendous value.

The utilities are intact and can be switched over to you once the lease is signed. You will be responsible for cable, internet, and phone – if you decide to have these services. Pets are allowed but just need to know the size and breed for our records. The rental term is 12-month lease, but can be switched to a 6-month lease, if that is more favorable. The only requirement is that you send us 30 days notice, when you want to move out of the unit.

If you would like to set up an appointment, go to the link below and request the free copy of your rental / credit report. The unaffiliated site will give you a free trial to redeem the credit score. The scores are insignificant – we realize many folks have had foreclosures, bankruptcy, etc. For insurance purposes, we are required to have a report on file from every prospective tenant. Here is the link: http://coolink.info/93b78e6302ffd2107312276ef983dd39

The only pages we require are regarding your rental history. You just need to bring that to your appointment to see the property.

My availability over the next few days is going to be constrained, but I will try to be available between 10am and 8pm. After you have completed the online process, let me know that you have a hard copy and I can schedule an appointment at the rental.
    See you soon!

    Kathy,
Thanks for posting. I normally do not bait this category of criminal, but Cindy fell into my lap while I was investigating some fake escrow scammers. Be sure to educate your friends and family on how these scammers work.

I have just went through the same thing! lauren.thompson38@gmail.com tried to scam me for a 2006 nissan maxima for $1900. As soon as we got down to sending the money western union I knew something was wrong! Why send ebay money through western union when we have paypal for that !!?? She also lied about her reason for selling the car. Said she couldnt [ redacted so as not to educate the criminals ] .. And why is your ” ebay representative” [ redacted ]? Why not someone [ redacted ] ? Why should i trust a representive to hold my money when they [ redacted ]?!?

Saben, apologies for the revisions … over a third of the visitors to this site are the scammers themselves. While we want to educate the masses, it is a fine line we walk so as not to make the criminals aware of what might tip us off.

amymiller492@gmail.com tried to ‘sell’ me a 2000 Land Rover Range Rover for $2,200 (negotiable for whatever I was willing to pay for it, lol). One of the simplest things that we, genuine buyers, should do, is to copy the seller’s email address and paste it into google.com. When I did this, I came down to this website and also was able to see tens of other cars being ‘sold’ nationwide by this scammer. In addition, keep it simple and conventional: deal in person, cash on hand upon inspecting the vehicle and title. Unfortunately, 99.98% of the times in which a wire transfer is required and/or the vehicle is in another city or state it’s definetely a scam.

    My 2 cents.

    Alex

Just got the email from cmiller.realestate@hotmail.com – same wording exactly. The sad thing is she is taking advantage of anyone, she saw me and kids are about to be homeless and still went after us. No shame!
Thank God for this site and thanks to hotmail for sending an initial flag making me delve into this a little deeper. Please watch your backs people!

Here is the e-mail I received from “Amy Miller” (amymiller492@gmail.com) in regards the Land Rover. Like I previously mentioned, 99.98% of the times in which a wire transfer is required and/or the vehicle is in another city or state it’s definitely a scam. The ‘modus-operandi’ here is as follows: the scammer obtains your basic information at first (as seen in the below email). Upon gathering this basic info, the scammer will send a ‘bill’ using a bogus eBay like site (professionally done, same graphics and similar web design) prompting you to make a payment either by wiring money by Western Union or a check. Upon receiving your hard earned money, instead of a Land Rover… landing time. Please note that PayPal is never an available option with a scammer. The sad part is that although it may sound like an “it’s too obvious that’s a scam” there are a lot of good faith people who are unaware of their tactics and are being victims of these crooks.

“My final price for suv is only $1,920.00. The shipping is free. You must pay only $1,920.00. The suv is already at the shipping company in Fort Collins, CO sealed and ready for the shipping. I have a contract with eBay so this deal must go through them. According with eBay you have 5 days from the time you receive the suv to inspect it and decide if you want to keep it or not.
Here is how it will work:
    1. First of all I will need the following details from you:
    – Full Name
    – Full Shipping Address
    – Phone #
    2. After I will receive the details from you, I will forward them to eBay.
    3. After they will process your info, they will send us both invoices. The invoice will send you the details on how to make a refundable payment.
    4. eBay will contact me and I will ship the suv to you. After you receive the suv you will have 5 days to test, verify and do whatever you want with the suv. If you will buy it, then I will receive the payment details from eBay so that I can pick up the money.
    5. If you will decide that you will not buy the suv, eBay will refund the money and I will have the shipping company come pick up my suv. If you wish to make the transaction, please send me the necessary info so that we can proceed. I look forward to hear from you.
    Thank you”

    Kathy and others,
Same e-mail from Cassie Kimmel: cassiekimmeln467@yahoo.com and jenna@gravity2012.com.
Here is the e-mail that was sent to me on an inquiry about a house in Bismarck.

    Hi,

We thought we got the place rented this morning to a younger couple, but their communication has stopped. You are the first person to email about it since we put it back on the marketplace . It would only be sensible that we offered you the first shot at the property. Ordinarily, we would like a 12 months lease, but would also be open to smaller terms. I’m sure that you will want to see the property prior to making a final determination. I will accept pets no more than 3. I would just give you the address and let you swing by, but my spouse is against blindly marketing an empty residence on the web. Rest assured the house is up kept appropriately and had a good cleanup and fresh new coat of paint. Basic utilities are presently on, but we expect that you would get them put into your name fairly fast. If you want to go ahead and schedule a time to see the property or home, go to the link below and print off the free copy of your report. Your score isn’t specifically crucial, we’re just interested in seeing that there are no evictions / landlord related judgments. go HERE for the free credit score i am very open as far as appointments go to show the property. Any morning after 10am is fine. Just let me know when you have everything printed and be sure to leave me a contact number to reach you at and any desired time. I will call you to confirm a time and choose a place to meet. Thanks for looking,

Wow Cindy Miller (cmiller.realestate@gmail.com) is on a roll. be aware that her email address has changed from Hotmail to Gmail. The exact same response that was given to Kathy W on February 24th, 2012, I just received on March 14, 2012. Regarding a 3 Bedroom 2 bath 2240 sq ft House renting for $789… Yeah if its to good to be true now we see that it is…. The response:

Ok, I got a little bit conned into the cmiller.realestate@gmail.com lady and I’m a little nervous now…PLEASE HELP! Ok, so I clicked on her link which was a throwaway inchlink.com link BUT it just sent me to SmartCredit.com. I checked out that sight, security enabled, legit website, etc. and I actually signed up for their 5 day trial. I got my credit score from them but then realized they had NO info about “rental history.” BIG RED FLAG…started getting nervous. So I called their toll-free number, got an operator, asked about this and they said that they provide NO rental history info. So I cancelled my trial and got email confirmation they cancelled my account. Am I in any danger? I mean the SmartCredit.com website is legitimate, I’ve read reviews on them, and while they have some shady business practices in regards to cancelling their services, once you do a voice call they do cancel it. I’m just wondering if I just had a close call or if there’s anyway this scammer could’ve gotten my account info.

Mike, I have not dabbled very deeply into this scam. Perhaps other readers can fill in details in order to determine what the risks are.

Mike, I did not mean to skirt around answering your question, but this rental scam is not my area of expertise. The criminals I have dealt with in the past 4 years want victims to send them $2000 cash — they don’t care what the victim’s name is or how much money they have. This rental scam appears to have a much higher phishing factor to it. If you have not routed any info to her, I am not clear on how she would obtain your information.

    Sharon and Bryan Jennings
    “Sharon Jennings”

I would like to add this name and email address to your website. They came very close to getting my wife and myself for
$2136 for a 2005 Toyota Corolla LE. I found the car on craigslist and emailed the link from craiglist and within a couple minuets I recieved a response. Basiclly she said she was selling the car so cheap because her 19 year old son was killed by a drunk driver while driving his girl friends car and his car was giving her bad memories. She said she was actully selling the car through eBay’s Buyer Protection Program. I was about to send the money when my daughter came through the door and told me eBay dosent do western union. Can someone get any lower than to use the death of a child to commit fraud.

    Thank For this blog

I’m not sure if the first post I made went through so just in case I’ll send it again.

    “Sharon Jennings”

Please add this name to your fraud/scammer list, My wife and I were almost taken for 2,136.00 for a 2005 Toyota Corolla LE. I found the car on craiglist and emailed this Sharon Jennings. She replyed within minutes with a real tear jurker. She said she was selling the car so cheap because her 19 year old son was killed in wreak by a drunk driver and the car was giving her bad memories. She said he was driving his girl friends car at the time of the accident. She said she wanted to sell the car through eBay’s Vehicle Purchase Protection Program. She said the link to eBay would be in my INBOX,BULK,JUNK and SPAM folder. Lo and behold a few moments later there it was. I was about to send out the money thinking what a great deal. By the way she had pictures of this car and a vin # as well. What saved me was my daughter came over and listened to our story and she informed us that eBay dosn’t do Western union wire transfers. So I went to eBays website and under autos there a warning about craiglistings and this Vehicle Purchase Protection Program.

    Thank You for this blog

    Hi,
I'm sorry for the delay! I have been very busy the last few days. The great news is that the property is still available . There was a potential renter who had significant interest in the rental, but he got evicted from previous apartment, so we need to start showing it again, as we want to get it leased immediately. Considering you had emailed us initially, regarding the property, we are giving you first right of refusal.

The unit is in great condition. We know a lot of prospective renters want to take a quick look at the property, regardless, our policy is not to divulge the address, as there are some lunatics in the world with bad intentions. The last time we gave out the address without verifying the prospective tenant. We don't want that to happen again.

The leasing term is 12-month lease, but can be switched to a 6-month lease, if that is more favorable.

Here is the link: http://tnylnk.net/27b8a0397c99b0cb950c94b22d626164

Received the same email from jenna@gravity2012…This was for an apartment in Southwest Virginia

    “Hi,

Thanks for looking,”

    Hello,

I got the same email from Cindy Miller today as well. I followed the link and it took me to creditreport.com. I did sign up for the free trial and emailed her back asking to set up the appointment. It was only then that I realized there is not rental history on credit reports. I called creditreport.com, which is essentially Experian, and they told me that there was no way for her to obtain any personal information that I provided their site.

I really hope that is true. I am not normally so naive. I am, however, tremendously grateful for this thread. When I Googled her email address, this was the first thing to pop up.

    Thanks everyone!

    Hi everyone,
So I just got the “Cindy” email. Thankfully, I went with my intuition and googled her name and came across this site. She is advertising to college students with the low rent cost. So I was thinking, why not go along with her scam and “claim” I did the report and then maybe I could get enough info to give to the police? Anyway, just a thought so more people are not scammed. What she is doing is illegal right?

My name is Alex John the owner of the apartment and also want you to know that it was due to my transfer on a (Christian Mission) that makes me and my wife and little daughter to leave the apartment and also want to give it out for rent and looking for a responsible person that can take very good care of it while we are not at the state as we are not after the money for the rent but want it to be clean at the time and the person that will rent it to take it as if it were its own. So for now, we are here in Nigeria, (NIGERIA) , our new house and put all my worries off concerning the maintenance of the apartment for, since i am not residing there for now. I left behind some Facilities and electronics which include the rent, DVD player, air conditioning, alarm system. The kitchen is fully equipped with all necessary cooking utensils, refrigerator-freezer, four-hob and oven, microwave, dishwasher and washing machine, my computer connected with Internet access also the keys and document of the apartment are right here with us in Nigeria, (NIGERIA) , and the lease document. Which i can send to you after all necessary agreement has been accepted. Also i will like you to know that the rent charges is not really the issue, hope you are okay with the price of 900Dollars pcm including utilities like water, gas, heat laundry facilities, air condition and so on, but your absolute maintenance of my apartment is most important thing, if you are really interested in renting this apartment get back to me so that i can start all necessary arrangement asap.

Just replied to an ad for a house for rent in Frederick, MD and got a response from jenna@gravity2012.com. I too entered my credit information. Is there something I can do now to retrieve the information? I did not send it to anyone, just printed out my credit report. Is that at least legitimate?

  55. allison said, on April 8, 2012 at 2:18 pm

I too received an email back from cmiller.realestate@gmail.com – same exact one as all of you!
    AND, from

    jennifer@ciffordproperties.com

Both asked for my credit report before giving me the address.

Both fishy, both fake, both scams! Be careful & DON’T give out your information to these sons of bitches.

    jennifer@ciffordproperties.com is scamming away.

Here’s her craigslist ad (currently flagged but still posted) – http://phoenix.craigslist.org/cph/apa/2940931492.html

And here is the email she sent:

    Hey,

Thanks for inquiring about this property, how are you doing? We had a very nice family wanting to rent this out, but sadly enough, they got laid off.

This property has zero issues. We don’t have any other images, except those that we listed, and they really don’t do justice. I know most possible tenants wanna walk the home at first to view, regardless, our policy is to not solicite the address online, as there are some lunatics on CL. The previous time we divulged the address to a prospective renter without verifying they are legit, they were upset since we didn’t feel they were a quality tenant and they vandalized the house. We were very disheartened since it’s in a nice area on a cul de sac. So this time we have to take some precautions. I’ll confirm what you probably already know, this home is just immaculate! A property similar to this would usually be much higher, but we need to lease it ASAP since it’s been vacant for the past 2 months.

You don’t have to worry about paying any utilities, but we do ask our tenants to be conservative about it. You would only be responsible for TV, high speed internet, and phone… if you decide you need these. This home is pet friendly, since we got a couple ourselves. And the yard has a fence as well. This is 6 or twelve month rental agreement. If you decide this is too much we might be able to accommodate that for special reasons. We just need a 30 day notice before hand.

If you are serious to set up a time/appointment, you will need a copy of your credit score. The unaffiliated website attached has reviews of different free trial credit scores, we always suggest our tenants to pick one of the proven, higher rated ones. We aren’t too concerned about the score, we understand in this economy it’s tough. But for insurance purposes, we are required to have a report on file from every prospective tenant and is absolutely required. Here is the site that we have been using for 7 years, it has the most accurate scores, and shows rental history, if applicable to you, unlike others: http://cr-review.com

One important thing is that you don’t send the report to me through email, just email us when you have it so we can schedule an appointment over the phone. We only need it when we meet in person and on file.

I tend to get really busy during the day, but with an appointment I can create a time slot between 9am-8pm. Please respond back soon.

I was looking for a house in Ohio on craigslist. $725 / 3br – Completely Remodeled 4 Bedroom Home in Great Area (Cleveland)
The email came from jennifer@cliffordproperties.com as well!

The email she sent was as follows:

    Hey,

How is everything? We had a very nice family wanting to rent this out, but it turned out, they became unemployed.

This property is in fantastic shape. We only listed a few images… all that we had, and they really don’t do justice. I know most possible tenants wanna walk the home at first to view, regardless, our policy is to not solicite the address online, due to the fact there are some crazy people in this world. Last year when we gave out the address of this place to an unknown person before verifying they are legit, they were mad that they didn’t qualify financially and they vandalized the home. This saddened us since it’s a high rated neighborhood and never happened before. So this time we have to take some precautions. I’ll confirm what you probably already know, this home is just gorgeous! A home similar to this would usually be priced much higher, but we need to rent it ASAP since it’s been empty for the past two months.

Water, gas, electric are all paid for, but we do ask that you be conservative about it. Only bills you pay for is TV, high speed internet, and phone… if you have the need for these. This home is pet friendly, since we got a couple ourselves. And the yard has a fence as well. This is 6 or twelve month rental agreement. When I pressed on the issue about knowing the round about location of the property I was met with the following response:

Maybe it’s better if we talk over the phone, to answer any questions you may have, and hopefully set up an appointment to view this property. We do need to rent this out asap, if you’re serious about this still, please email me back with your # as soon as you get a copy of your report so I can go over a couple things on the report, like your rental history over the phone, if all checks out I would be able to make an appointment any time this week, I’m pretty flexible. I attached the site for your convenience: http://cr-review.com . Hope to hear back from you soon.

I did however go to the website she or he or it attached in the email, then went to google.com and searched the exact website address and used the website that I actually pulled up–NOT the link of the link that she sent me in the emails. I am hoping that I’m okay….

    Sandy ;
I just answered back to jennifer@ciffordproperties.com by email , same ad on the craigs list for a house to rent . I told her I was no way good with putting my information on te internet an I needed to know where the home was located before I did anything like credit or money transferring . I was told that we needed to talk over the phone . She said she needed to rent the house soon if I was seriously interested she would go over my report so I could give the correct info. Not sure if I will hear anything more . Bull—- if these creeps do not get caught !!!!

Same with jennifer@ciffordproperties.com Also a while back a guy named “mario ervin”both in portland, both said they couldn’t give address because of previous vandalism, both said they’d lived in the place before, and both wanted me to sign up for a credit score trial without mentioning i’d be signing up and asked to provide a card number and all that jazz for a free trial. They claimed it would show them rental history. BOGUS.

Wow this makes me sick. Honestly I don’t know how I believed something that sounded so good, I should’ve known it was too good to be true. I’m pregnant with my first child and looking for a place to call our own. I came across a listing on Craigslist for a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom condo which looked and sounded perfect. Needless to say, after reading all the previous emails you all have posted, I realized it’s a scam. It’s so pathetic and sad that people have nothing better to do with their time than lie and scam innocent people. I just hope someone actually does something about this.

davidj.paul@yahoo.com is another scammer. Here is the email he sent to me for a craigslist home in Ventura County California.

    Hello

Thanks for your interest and inquiries about my house. Yes the house is still available for rent and we are looking for a responsible person/family to occupy
and maintain the house now that we are not around. Myself and Wife just traveled to West Africa for a program called SERVING IN MISSION (SIM), you can view the link for more info: http://www.sim.org/index.php/content/our-purpose . We will be away for 2 to 3 years or more that is why I have made up my mind to put up my house for rent to whom ever that will take good care of it. However, my initial plan was to sell the house but it was not successful because the Realtor raised the price which made it difficult for me to sell before leaving the States so never mind if you see the for sale sign in front of the house, It has already been taken off the market as for sale so there is no need to contact any Realtor.

Also how long do you intend to stay? How soon do you intend to move in?

Then, when I got the same responses as “maybe we need to talk on the phone”… I left my phone number, but never received a call. I, too, hope that I will be ok. How dare scammers be so disgusting as to mess with peoples’ lives! My heart breaks for all of us! I replied to the last email and gave the person/people the ‘what for’ on what they’re doing is disgusting and hurtful. UGH!

Wow, I just got the same email from Jennifer@ciffordproperties.com I thought it was strange to get the email at 7am from a “business” email, and honestly I wondered if she was a crack or merge head based on her writing… Told her I wanted a general area property was in & asked a few questions about the “property” but she/he clearly doesn’t get that anyone familiar with renting is also familiar with background checks & credit checks… That is what an application is for. Luckily I have quite a few options in my area, and can leave this scammer behind!

I am so glad I read this blog! I read Cindy Millers post and I got almost the same exact email from a house I inquired on on craigslist. I am used to the “I’m abroad in Africa but answer these questions and blah blah blah” but this one had me. I was actually looking to see if smartcredit.com was a scam and came across your site and the similarities in the emails are too much.

Here is the email I got from “stacy” at

    http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/apa/2979083836.html

    Hello,
I apologize for not responding to you earlier, I have been extremely busy the last few days!

The good news is that the rental is still available! We had a tentative agreement from the first person we showed it to, but now it seems that they changed their mind, so we need to lease it as soon as possible. You were the second one to email me about it, so its only fair to give you the first shot.

We know you will want to do a walk through of the property, but my husband doesn’t want me to advertise the address as a measure of safety. Last time we did that without verifying people, the empty property was broken into and vandalized. We don’t want that to happen again! You will be responsible for cable, internet, and phone, if you decide to have these services. Just to confirm, we DO allow pets at this property.

The rental term is 12-month lease, but can be switched into a 6-month lease if preferred. We just ask that you give us fair notice if you are moving out.

If you would like to set up an appointment, go to the link below and request the free copy of your rental report. We use this site for all the properties we manage. Just fill out the form and indicate that you want the free report. The actual scores aren’t important to us, it’s more of a formality to have it on file, to make sure there are no previous proerty related issues.

Get your report here: FULL REPORT

Remember, we only need to see the page about the rental history. That will be all you will need to bring with you to the showing.

As far as getting together to see the property goes, I am available to show it any time from 10:00 am on, for the next few days. Let me know once you have it printed out, and we will set up a time to do your walk-through.

Thank you once again for your interest!

    Stacy

I was also scammed by “Jennifer Reed.” As soon as I found out I was being scammed I immediately cancelled by credit card but I was still nervous about having my social security number out there. I called up the website that was linked to her email and found out they are a legitimate company, so any of you that also filled out the website, your information is safe. Jennifer Reed is definitely not very bright, the post I replied to was a studio apartment with one bathroom. A few days ago I found the exact same apartment with the same pictures listed as a two bedroom two bathroom apartment. I immediately flagged it. I thought I was finally getting somewhere with my apartment searching but now I’m back to square one.

I recieved two (!) similar e-mails this week in response to a rental ad on Craigslist.

The first one was from “Alice Johnson” (alice@urbanre.net):
    “Hello,
My apologies for the delay! So many thing I had to do over the course of the last few days. The great news is that the property is still available . There was a person who had significant interest in the rental, but he got evicted from previous apartment, so we need to start showing it again, as we want to get it leased as soon as we can.

We don’t want that to happen again. I’ll confirm what you probably already know this property is gorgeous! A leasing like this would typically go for much more, but again, I need to lease it right now, which is why the lease rate is a tremendous value.

The utilities are intact and can be switched over to you once the lease is signed. You will be responsible for cable, internet, and phone – if you decide to have these services. Pets are allowed but just need to know the size and breed for our records. The leasing term is 12-month lease, but can be switched to a 6-month lease, if that is more favorable.

Here is the link: http://moolink.info/35758cd02e0ed65ce8e62cd56ff1532e

    Alice Johnson”

The second one was from “Sherril Ybarbo” (sherrilybarbo@yahoo.com):

    “Hello,

I apologize for not responding to you earlier, I have been extremely busy the last few days!

The good news is that the rental is still available! We thougth we had the place rented to a couple we showed it to last week, but now it seems that they changed their mind, so we need to lease it as soon as possible. You were the second one to email me about it.

I am sure you will want to do a walk through of the property, but my husband doesn’t want me to advertise the address as a measure of safety.

The actual scores aren’t important to us, it’s more of a formality to have it on file, to make sure there are no previous property related issues.

Get your report here: FREE REPORT

Remember, we only need to see the page about the rental history. That will be all you will need to bring with you to the showing.

As far as getting together to see the property goes, I am available to show it any time from 10:00 am on, for the next few days. Let me know once you have it printed out, and we will set up a time to do your walk-through.

Thank you once again for your interest!”

I also replied to the so-good-to-be-true ad on Craigslist. (michelle41brown@gmail.com) told me that she was getting ready to be deployed and needed to sell her 2006 Honda Civic right away through Google Checkout. (sharonjennings@gmail.com) used the same story as well. that her son of 19 years old died and it brought back bad memories. but asking to use Ebay blah, blah, blah. I knew something was odd when “she” went into detail about the car.. why do i care if your son died? (sorry but its true) I just want a car! oh and (ashley77panton@gmail.com) is also a SCAM. do NOT fall into their stupid game of getting people’s money…

I am so glad I came across this website! My dad was about to make a purchase for a 2005 Toyota Corolla Le for $2136 from Sharon Jennings. She also gave me the same sob story about her dead daughter!
This was her first email sent back immediately to me after I told her my dad was interested and would like to know why was she selling it at such a low price and if there were any damages to the car

    “Hi,
The car is in perfect condition, no electric problems, no accidents/liens/loans. No scratches, never been repainted. I have all the car manuals, title, documents.
I’m selling this car because my child of only 19 died 4 months ago in a car accident, a drunk driver hit him and his fiancé.
He was with his fiancé’s car coming to our home at his little brother birthday of 10 years old.
The car belonged to my son and it brings me bad memories and that’s the reason I want to sell it. The last price is $1,936. Me and my husband travel a lot with our business and we want to make this deal through eBay’s Buyer Protection Program. I just need your full name, full shipping address, home/cell # so I can open a case (with no further obligation or fees). eBay will contact you with all the Transaction/shipping details you will need. We will take care of the shipping so don’t worry.
We hope to hear soon from you.

    -sharonjennings74@gmail.com

Afterwards I reply saying sorry for her lost, your daughter is in a better place but my dad will not make any transactions online since he was aware of the many scams on craiglists and would prefer to inspect the car first and pay cash.

    Then she reply hours later,
    “Hi again,

Thank you, the car is located in Great Falls MT at DAS ( Dependable Auto Shippers ) headquarters, in the container, sealed and ready for shipping. You will have 10 days so you can inspect the car. Once you have inspected the car and decided to keep it, you will confirm your decision to eBay and only then they will re-route the money in to my account, but if by any reason, you won’t be satisfied with the car you can return it back for a full refund of your money. I will take care of the shipping, don’t worry. You will receive the car with all the necessary papers (clear title, bill of sale, user’s manual, insurance etc).

Just get back with your full name and full shipping address and I will get everything started as soon as possible, then eBay will contact you with further instructions.

Hope to hear soon from you.

    Thanks a lot!”

I haven’t emailed back since the first thing that alerted me was I felt she really didn’t care that I said sorry for her lost and talked about the car right away. Then I didn’t know where Great Falls MT at DAS was at since she posted her ad under the Philadephia craiglists. So then right away when I type that into google the second link was beware of scams from craiglists. I did my research and saw she almost got another person buying this car. Hope this help!

This is another scammer, her name is Debra Roberts. She tried to sell us a Toyota Celica for $2430. Aware of the previous scam, I typed her name in google and she already scammed others. This is the email she sent to me after I told her my dad was interested in the car, and where is the location of the car.
“Hi, thanks for emailing us.First of all we would like to inform you about the location of the vehicle Minot, ND. This car has 68,446 miles and never been in a wreck, never been painted on and has no dings, dents or scratches, also no mechanical problems. It has been garaged so the factory paint is spotless and shiny, even on the roof.
This is my personal vehicle, title in my name/hand and there are no liens or loans on it. I was fired from my job and now we are in a hurry to find a buyer because we are in debts with the bank. My husband is a Dependable Auto Shippers employee and he can deliver the car with low costs everywhere in the US.

The transaction will be managed by eBay, so everything will go smooth. You will receive the car for inspection before you make any payment to us. If you want me to reserve the car for you, just let me know. Final Price $2,430 (shipping included).

All wishes to you and your family,
    Debra and John Roberts

Lauren Thompson ( lauren.thompson38@gmail.com) is a scammer!!! I figured it was to good to be true but I emailed the person anyway. They had 4 pictures of the car. I emailed this –
    When could I come & see your car*** 2006 —-***—- Nissan —-***—- Maxima *** – $1900 ? Where are you located?

She replied – Thank you for being interested in buying my 2006 Nissan Maxima, automatic transmission, 93 000 miles, VIN: 1N4BA41E06C818574. It is in EXCELLENT condition; the body and paint are great, no scratches and no dents; the interior is clean; it has never been involved in an accident; the title is clear.
I have recently moved to Spain. I was hoping to take my car here but when I found out how much shipping and registration would be I’ve changed my mind. As I’m unable to travel in the near future and I don’t have anyone in the US to help me with the sale I decided to make this transaction through eBay. I believe this protects both buyer and seller and it’s the right way to do this.

The final price is $1,900. If you decide to buy this car or need further information please get back to me as soon as possible.
    Thank you,
    Lauren

I emailed – Sorry but I only deal in person ( face to face). If the car is here like you have listed then someone has to be with it to show & give keys at purchase. So if that isn’t possible then I am not interested.

    Thanks

I then looked for the add after I found this when I googled her email address (lauren.thompson38@gmail.com) & it is now gone.

You will only have to deposit to ClickandBuy the first month of rent from contract 710CAD$ so they can proceed with the shipping, and you can receive the rental package (keys and documents). I will pay for a 2 days delivery so you will receive the keys and the contract signed by me right away. I will explain you step by step how this process will work:

1 – To start the process all I need is your full shipping info(full name, address and a cell phone number).
2 – I will go at ClickandBuy to deposit the keys and the contract on your name as the intended receiver.
3 – ClickandBuy will check the package to see if everything is in order and also the legal papers that will come along with the keys and proof of ownership with their Real Estate Professional Department in London. They will also confirm with the building manager that I’m the legal owner of the apartment I’m renting to you.
4 – ClickandBuy will send you a delivery notification to let you know they have the keys and the papers in their custody in which you will also have all the payment instructions to complete the money transfer to the ClickandBuy Agent.
5 – At this point you will have to make a money deposit on the ClickandBuy Agent Name for the amount we agreed, the total amount you shall deposit for the first month of rent. The payment needs to be sent within 24 hours after you receive the transaction details or else they will charge me an additional fee.
6 – After you make the deposit you will have to send the payment details to ClickandBuy.
7 – ClickandBuy will verify the transfer and if everything is in order they will start the shipping procedures using UPS or TNT Next Day Shipping Service.
8 – After you receive the package, you will go and check the apartment and in 5 days (inspection time) you must contact ClickandBuy to inform them if you keep the apt or not and if everything is in order you will instruct ClickandBuy to send me the information about the money deposit and I will be able to receive the funds. If you don`t like the apartment they will be sending the money back to you and you will send back the keys and contract. ClickandBuy can’t release the funds without your approval.

Let me know if you have the funds available (710CAD$) so we can move forward and e-mail me your full shipping information I requested. Any further questions regarding the transaction you can contact me or send me your number and I will call you.

Thankfully, I thought it too good to be true and after a 5 min search, came across this site and discovered very similar information that put the brakes on us going any further for this scam for a car for our son. See below: BTW- there was an exact “Oceanographer” scenario that blew me away. Already posted it on my Facebook- share this, it can save a lot of people heartache if we share!!!!!

    Hi,

I’ve received your email regarding the Infiniti G35 with 51,445 miles on it. The car is still for sale and my asking price is $3,400. It is a 2003 model loaded with everything, VIN# JNKCV54E33M221783. The car is very well maintained and it has just been completely serviced. The engine( 3.5L V6) runs very good and the automatic transmission shifts perfectly. The car is in perfect condition with clear title,no accidents, no liens or loans.
I’m an oceanographer and I’m on sea at this moment, so I left the car in Franklin, NC at the shipping company, it’s already packed and waiting to be shipped anywhere. Shipping/delivery is included in this price as I almost closed the deal with another customer but he was unable to take the loan from the bank. I’ve already prepared shipping for him as he was out of state.

Here you can find more pictures of the vehicle:
    http://s1244.photobucket.com/albums/gg575/03InfinitiG35/

Let me know if you are still interested.
    Regards,
    Vanessa Hudson

The car is located at the shipping company since someone agree to buy it, but at the end she never got the loan. For this reason the shipping is included. Also the price is small because I don’t have time for negotiations and I need money soon for my research.
The car is in perfect condition with clear title, no liens or loans. All the documents including the title and the bill of sale with my signature on it, will come along with the car and it will take no more than 2-3 days for the car to arrive at your address.

The transaction will be made thru Amazon Payments because they can protect both of us and they also offer 5 days inspection period. You’ll have 5 days to inspect, test and drive the car before decided to keep it or not. If the vehicle is not like I described, you’ll ship it back on my expense and they will give you a full refund.
Amazon Payments will hold the funds until you receive the car with all the papers work. Only after you confirm them that you wanna keep the car they will release me the funds. In this way, you will be able to inspect the vehicle before committing to buy it.

If you want to start the transaction with Amazon Payments just reply me with your full name, shipping address and your phone number. Thx

-Be careful guys!! Not everything you see on Craigslist is legit and anyone who knows NYC knows this is too good to be true. I’ve been searching for housing for only a couple of weeks now and what I’m finding is that if it seems too good to be true…. IT MOST LIKELY IS!!!!

I got one more e-mail from Mary Vang, she was advertising on Craigslist for an extra room in her apartment in Murray Hill, Manhattan. $600/month. I had a feeling something was wrong so I googled her e-mail address and found that Mary Vang has been found in many cities including Chicago, Detroit, and Minneapolis. Here’s the e-mail:

    Hello Madeha,

Thank you inquiring about my apartment for rent – it is available for October or November move in (possibly immediately for the right tenant). I am scheduling viewings of the unit and would be interested in showing you around the building. I have attached a few pictures of the unit for you – the apartment is available furnished or unfurnished depending on your needs.

Due to poor renting experiences in the past I am requesting that you confirm you have a reasonable credit score and would like to hear more about your current employment to avoid dealing with under qualified tenants.

I would suggest getting a free report from http://www.freeuscreditscores.com which requires less than 3 minutes and has no cost. No viewings will be allowed until I have received your score, this will also be helpful for other properties you are looking at and is a standard in pre-rental screening procedures.

I am asking that you complete the report and provide me with the numerical score, please DO NOT send the report as it contains sensitive information, you can print it for your records and bring it with you to the viewing.

If you can also tell me a little bit about yourself, your interests, and hobbies I would be interested in hearing more about you. Please note that I have received quite a few emails already and have a few showings scheduled for later this week so the quicker you can get the report and drop by to view the unit the better.

I look forward to hearing back from you,

    Mary
