I am 17 and I was about to buy my first car from Jessica Calhoun. She wrote to me and told me that she was being deployed to Afghanistan the 25th. Then, I found googled her email address and this showed up. THANK YOU.
I would’ve wasted my savings for nothing.

First off, under opsec rules, military personnel would NEVER indicate dates they are to deploy, when they return, and where. I responded just to see how they would respond to me, and sure enough they are scammers

#3 I’m involved in a military program currently located in Joint Base Lewis-McChord,WA due to military security reasons i’m restricted from leaving the unit’s facility under any purpose and have strictly limited phone access. I am only allowed to check my email few times a day. I hope you can understand that we will have to stick to email for now. The vehicle is here with me at the base in but I’ve already made all the arrangements with DAS to pick it up from the base. DAS will also handle the title transfer for an extra $75.00.Being in the army has some advantages and one of them is the fact that I can ship it very cheap.I will pay for the shipping charges and the $75.00 fee for title transfer. The financial part of this sale will be managed by eBay for our own protection as they act as a neutral third part. eBay will keep the money until you inspect/drive the vehicle.

This is how the eBay works:

    1. I will contact eBay and give all the info about this deal.
    2. They will email us the forms by email – about the buyer’s protection policy, delivery, and payment.
    3. You will send the payment to eBay and they will notify me to ship the vehicle to your location. The estimated time of delivery is 3 to 5 days, they will deliver the vehicle on a flatbed truck.
    4. After you will inspect/drive the vehicle and decide to keep it, eBay will forward me the funds and the deal is done.
You have 5 days to test it from the day you receive it. If by any chance you won’t be satisfied with it you will be fully refunded and I will have the shipping company come to pick it up and I have to pay the shipping back. If you wish to purchase it please provide me your full name, address so I can initiate the deal through eBay.
Good faith has always been my top priority and my most valued business approach.
Looking forward to hear from you!

It seems that a majority of what is on Craig’s List is this scammer. Has anyone figured out if it is one person or a “team”? I’m looking for a car for my 16 year old son who has painfully saved and I want to make sure he does not get scammed. This group tends to advertise vehicles at low prices thus enticing young buyers into thinking they have “found a deal”. Unfortunately, these young kids would be devastated should they fall prey to these scammers. I just got a reply on a 2003 Subaru Forester XS. It look exactly like the other postings….

    Here it is…..

    Good morning,

The Forester it is in perfect condition, there’s not a scratch or any dents on it. Everything from engine to tires is mint condition. I have a clear title with no liens or loans. I’m selling it so low due the fact that my medical team will deploy back to Afghanistan on July 30th for a 1 year contract and I won’t let it go to waste in my backyard, therefore I need a fast and reliable buyer. IS THERE ANYTHING BEING DONE TO STOP THESE SCAMMERS????????

    HERE IS ANOTHER…..

    AGNES.GLISSON@GMAIL.COM

    Hi again,
The truck is already at the shipping company in Bismark,North Dakota ready for delivery. I have setup this sale with eBay so this deal must go through them. Unfortunately I’m not near you and my daughter is in hospital so I can’t meet in person with you so this is the reason why I chose to sell my Tacoma on internet.
In order to complete this deal the payment must be sent to eBay. As soon as they receive the payment will notify me to start with delivery. The delivery cost is included in the price.
eBay will not release the payment to me until you receive and inspect the truck (you have 10 days for inspection). If the truck is not in same condition as I said you will ship it back on my expense and eBay will send you a full refund. But I assure you won’t be the case. Now, if you are serious about this and want to move forward, just mail me back with:
    – Your Full Name – Required by eBay (You’ll receive important guidelines + payment instructions from them.)
    – Your Delivery Address and Phone Number
As soon as I will receive the details from you, I will forward them to eBay and declare you as the buyer. They will contact you with further information regarding payment and delivery.

Thanks, hope to do business with you soon!
PS:The truck comes with all the documents ( title, bill of sale, full service records, etc…) It has a clear title in my name. The title will be signed into your name as soon as the payment will be sent to eBay.

Here are the pictures with the Toyota:

And his FRIEND Andrew P. Morgan is selling “Very Clean 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe LT – $2410 (ann arbor)”
Both on Craigslist. I asked about both, and got the “The Escape, it is in perfect condition….” script listed by several people above. But when I checked this morning, both ads were gone. Hooray!!

    Reply to my e-mail inquiry

I am in a currently stationed at Nevada Army National Guard. We are getting ready for Afghanistan. We are in the final stage of our training and we are not allowed to use the phone during this period. This is supposed to keep us focused on our trainings. I am only allowed to check my email few times a day. I hope you can understand that we will have to stick to email for now. The vehicle is here with me at the base but I’ve already made all the arrangements with DAS to pick it up from the base. DAS will also handle the title transfer for an extra $75.00. Being in the army has some advantages and one of them is the fact that I can ship it very cheap. I will pay for the shipping charges, as I’ve said in my first email. I think I can have it there in 3-5 business days.

I am a member of the eBay buyer protection program and using this service you will give a 5 days testing period after delivery. During that 5 days testing period I will not be getting any money. I need to know if you are interested in buying it so I can ask eBay to send you the details on how this works. I have to fill out a form on eBay and I need the name that will go on the title and an address where you want the car delivered. Once I do it, eBay will email you all the details on this transaction and we can get the ball rolling.

I need to know if you are interested in buying it so I can ask eBay to send you the details on how this works. I have to fill out a form on eBay and I need the name that will go on the title and an address where you want the car delivered. Once I do it, eBay will email you all the details on this transaction and we can get the ball rolling.

Isnt there something that can be done about these scams. For some reason I took the email I was sent and looked up the email address and included scam in the search. So now here I am. I just replied to his or her email from richard22mateo@gmail.com selling a Subaru Forester and now am waiting for his reply. Its really upsetting that he or she said they were in the military and were heading back to Afghanistan.

-After asking him to see the car. he respond to us
    .

Answered a Sacramento CA. CRAIGSLIST ad for a Kubota tractor. If it sounds to good to be true and its on CRAIGSLIST its a scam. Looks like a familiar name here.

Hello there and thank you for your interest to buy my tractor…

The 2006 Kubota is still for sale .The tractor is in PERFECT CONDITION, outside and inside, 204 hours,no accident,no loans,it has been very well maintained.Everything from engine to tires is mint condition.
It belonged to my uncle but he died 1 month ago. I have a clear title with no liens or loans. My last price for you is $2200. I’m selling it so low due the fact that my medical team will deploy back to Afghanistan on September 15 for a 1 year contract and I won’t let it go to waste in my backyard, therefore I need a fast and reliable buyer. Let me know if you are interested!

    And later……………..

The tractor is already at our Military Logistic Department in Nevada sealed and ready to go. The Logistic Department will deliver the tractor to your home. Since the tractor is in a military base, and you can’t go there to take it, only the Logistics Department can deliver it, because it’s in their custody. Shipping may take anywhere between 1-5 business days depending on the destination.
All documents you need for ownership, service book, manuals and bill of sale, the title, will be provided along with the tractor.
For the payment I would like to use Google as a third party. They will keep your money into a protection account until you get the tractor and will release it to me after inspection period is over and you agree to keep the tractor. You can pay 1890 now so I can start the shipping procedure, and the rest of the money when the tractor arrives and you decide to keep it. So, this is not a blind transaction, you can see the tractor before committing to buy and to eliminate any concerns you will have 3 days to inspect it. If you decide not to keep it Google will refund you the money, no questions asked, and shipping back will be my concern. I think this is more than fair for both of us.
I’ll start the official procedure, and Google will contact you about this. If you are interested in buying it just mail me back with:

    – Your Full Name – Required by Google (You’ll receive important guidelines + instructions from them.)
    – Your Phone Number – Required by both Google and Logistics Department.
    – Your Full Shipping Address – Required by the Logistics Department (They will contact you by email with delivery/pickup instructions 1 day ahead so you can communicate what time schedule work best for your to receive the tractor)

Again, I want to point out that because I am going to Afghanistan this sale is my top priority and I am looking after a fast transaction, with no delays. That is why I decided to lower the price, to avoid wasting time with negotiations and find a buyer as soon as possible.

    Hello again John,
Thanks for writing back in. We have researched your report and are very sorry to inform you that the email invoice you received is not associated with any legitimate use of any Google product or service. The use of Google text, images, and trademarks is unauthorized, and appears to be fraudulently attempting to “spoof” a legitimate invoice.

I would like to thank everyone that has participated in posting these scams. Sadly it seams that there is little that can be done. It appears that that this guy has been at this for some time.

These are both scams. http://kalamazoo.craigslist.org/ctd/3245744586.html for a Honda Accord. And http://kalamazoo.craigslist.org/ctd/3245447253.html for a Nissan Maxima. Both emails I received were similar to those that have been posted. “Medical team deploy back to Afghanistan. . blah blah blah”

I am a struggling college student that was looking on craigslist trying to find a car that was dependable and yet affordable after attempting to contact the seller I became leery of the advertisment and email response. When I googled to try and find the persons name with any positive credential I found this website that saved me I feel from finding this advertisement here on this webpage just different vehicle and name, but the same M-0.

Thanks for saving my dream, money, and hopes of finding a car to get back and to college.
    Thanks,
    Linda
