Ebay: “Vehicles purchased on other online sites won’t be covered.”

At Ebay’s online customer support pages,  Buying->Report Vehicle Fraud, I read:

If you’re buying a vehicle on another site and someone offers eBay purchase protection or claims to be affiliated with eBay, it’s a scam.

Do not believe listings on Craigslist, AutoTrader, or other online sites that promise eBay purchase protection. Vehicles listed on other sites are not eBay transactions, and won’t be covered by our purchase protection programs.

If you’ve already paid for a vehicle on another site, the first thing you should do is contact the company you made the payment through to see if you can cancel or dispute the payment.

If you paid by wire transfer, you can contact Western Union at 1-800-325-6000 or MoneyGram at 1-800-926-9400. Generally, if you paid by wire transfer and you don’t receive the item, there’s no buyer protection and the likelihood of getting your money back is low.

We recommend that you contact a law enforcement officer, both where you live and where the seller lives. When you do, let them know that eBay is happy to cooperate in the investigation. The officer should contact us at stopfraud@ebay.com. To locate law enforcement officers that can help you, visit http://www.usacops.com.
