yep..its a scam. I strung this woman (or man) via email along for days. The number they provided never answered. the VIN is registered to another person. They never really give their name to you. and when I questioned why the VIN doesnt match the email name “carla.p.herron@comcast.net” they responded with “oh yeah, my father gave it to us as a wedding gift”. When I asked for pictures of the roof and engine, they did not respond, and when I asked how many years they had it, they said “since it was new 3 4 years”. First of all, the coach is only 13 years old, and then they smartly spaced the 3 and the 4 so they could say they meant 3 to 4, then they said since it was new, so that doesnt add up. SO DONT FALL FOR THIS ANYONE!!! IF ITS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE THEN IT IS ! Report these people or the following emails to ebay and craigslist if you get them: car_pher76@yahoo.com or carla.p.herron@comcast.net JUST IN CASE THEY ARE SELLERS UNDER THOSE EMAIL ADDRESSES ON EITHER SITE. LETS TRY TO STOP THESE BUMS !

Thanks, Jackie. These criminals seem to be a bit less professional than those I normally run across. Perhaps it is a good time for me to email them and make sure they get a good education. 🙂

The scammer at carla.p.herron@comcast.net replied to my blind inquiry:

Thanks for replying.Because of our jobs we don`t have time to stay and meet with all our potential buyers,so we’ve decided to sell it online. That’s why we gave it to a shipping co. that will ship it to the next owner(on my cost). You will have 5 days from the time you receive the trailer to inspect it and decide if you want to keep it or not. If by any reason, you aren’t satisfied, you will return the trailer to the shipping co. with no expense. We will be using eBay’s Protection for our safety.
Please reply with your complete name and shipping address in your next email and let me know if you are interested in knowing more details about this purchase so that I can open a transaction at eBay and to move forward with this deal. After that they will contact you with all necessary information about this transaction(terms, buyer protection, payment instructions,invoice,etc.).

P.S.I forgot to tell that the trailer will be shipped from Omaha NE.

It seems this scammer may be Malaysian rather than Romanian. Perhaps that is why the mode of operation differs from scams I have previously followed. Or he may be a rookie Romanian using email servers in Sri Lanka.

In any event, let the games begin!

Almost gave Western Union $2,700 for a 1991 Boston Whaler, mint, with 100 HP Yamaha Outboard. Went to bed last night thinking I won the lotto, that boat is worth $7,500 here in Florida. Before I left for Western Union this morning I did a Google search for craiglist/ebay/western union and BAM….scam city.

Scam format is almost the exact same as the Winnebago heist. Customer service number the provided reverse searches as a land line in Provo, UT. Left a message at the police dept. there. Hope they look into it.

    BEWARE!

oh interesting..they said the husband got a really good job in California and she didnt want to sell the RV but “had to”. And they don’t open up any ebay auction.

And as inquire more about it, the seller gets more demanding about getting my full name and address. and is getting pushier by the minute.

I never bought it for a second. I love stringing these guys in. Its become quite a hobby. I can waste as much of their time as they waste on their victims!

  9. Jackie C said, on September 2, 2010 at 7:54 am

ask for VIN #s..call the state and see who it belongs to… most often a scammer doesn’t sell their own items so the VIN ownership will be a tip off.

never give money before finding out for yourself if the Title is actually in the seller’s name.

  10. Caleb said, on September 2, 2010 at 7:42 pm

They are now selling a bass boat for 2,800. Said they had to leave the city for Cal. Funny they posted the add in a small town of only 7000, not quit leaving the city. They then tell you it is in Nebraska and they will pay for the shiping. This is a 12 to 16 Thousand dollar boat that they are read to ship accross the country for free. Shipping would cost half of the sale. Anyhow not very smart.

I am working with them right now!I emailed their craigslist to ask if their 2003 Winnie (this is what they are selling) was really $2800 and not $28,000. I received an email from carla.p.herron@comcast.net she said yes it is $2800! her husband got a job in LA. they need to sell it right away. She told me by phone (I called the minute she sent me the email, she knew what my phone number was already because it iwas in a email I had sent her so she knew it was me and so I think that is why they answered)(her husband answered) I deliveratly asked for Cheryl not Carla and her husband said just a minute, CHERYL!!! She got on the phone with me . I asked her on the phone what year the RV was and she said wait a minute then she came back to the phone and said 2005 (her email response with her ad in subject line said 2003 I can’t seem to find the ad I responded to) I asked how many miles on it and she said oh low miles. I said I thought your ad said 81000+ she said that’s right. I told her I live in LA and could meet her husband to give him the money or I could make a deposit into her bank account and she said her dad was an attorney and that they have to do the payment though ebay to protect all of us. I asked why she did not sell it though ebay and she said that they just wanted to sell it fast so they listed it on craigslist so i asked where her ad was because i could not find it and she said due to the overwhelming response they had her husband removed it. so i said then why didnt you sell it if you had a bunch of people wanting to buy it? she said I was the first to respond and they got a bunch of calls after mine but since iwas the first it was only right that she sells it to me. She was not selling it for the money she was selling it because they are moving to LA and her husband will buy her another one She said that they do not have the time to meet all of the potential buyers face to face so they are selling in on line. She said Ebay will protect the purchase and that she will pay for the RV to be sent to me from Nebraska and when I asked how much the shipping would be (normal is $1.00-$1.30 per mile) she said $130 total because her dad set it up with a shipping company and once I received the RV and if for any reason don’t want it I can send it back to her at no cost to me. I told her I would email her my info for her to set it up with EBAY. Then I sent her an email saying Ebay or Paypal? I am waiting for her response. They are Indian by the way with a semi strong accent. Total scaming losers they need to take a better course in lying because they are SO OBVIOUS! I am going to report them to ebay now to see if they can help me catch them. I told her my dad being FBI has always warned me about these kinds of scams and she said my dad is a laywer and is the same way. Below is our emails to eachothes you can see she added another email address for herself but she is still using carla.p.harron@comcast.net:

i just called the 1-801-8770819 phone number they list for and ebay help in thier fake invoice an indian sounding guy ( sounds just like the husband and wife)answered right away. (now we all know that when you call any rep for anything it takes forever for them to answer and usually there is some kind of automated thing you have to go though first) saying his name was shawn and he wan and ebay rep to help so I asked his last name and he said BROWN I asked to talk to his superviisor and guess what a supervisor got on the phone right away and guess what he too had and indian sounding voice just like mike the husband saying his name was ROBERT ( ok so what is with all of these american names that itself is a dead give away!) I asked Robert for his operator Id and he said it was 1674 I asked ROBERT why all of them sound like they are indian or hindu or something and he hung up. I think I insulted him…hahhaha

Barbara, thanks for posting. Remember, these guys are criminals and if you gave them your real address, it might be a good idea to drop the correspondence and email them from an anonymous email address. Thanks for the input on the accents of the scammers. I have noted just in the past week that a few of the scams I follow are now originating in Malaysia. Prior to that, 99% of the scams I researched were from Eastern Europe. It appears that scamming is a very profitable venture.

    Hi again,

I said the Rv is in Houston TX but did not said I’m there also. Sorry for that. I’m a Doctor(General Practice), now in Hawaii actually and will not be there to hand it over or something like that.
This is why we’ll work through eBay Motors Customer Department and they will keep the money until the purchase is final and you test it and accept it.
Sorry for not being clear from the beginning, my fault.
Let me explain you how the eBay process works.
The process works something like this:
    1. You send the requested amount(in our case $15,000.00) to an eBay motors bank account.
    2. eBay will confirm me that you have made the payment.
    3. I will ship you the RV so you can test drive it.
    4. If you will not get exactly the same RV that you have viewed in the ad, and also a clean title you will receive all your money back from eBay motors.
    5. If everything is ok eBay motors will get the approval from you to release me the funds.
If you agree with this process please let me know your full name and address and I will forward the details to eBay motors.

    Thanks

price I want to obtain for the RV is $14,000 US (this price includes shipping
and insurance charges). It is like new, completely working, perfect running
condition, with no hidden damages or accidents,it has always been garage kept,
low miles, non-smoker no flood or storms. It is a US model with US specs and
passed the US test emissions. It will be as if purchased locally. The title is
clear and you will be able to register the car in your state without any
problems. If you agree with these terms, please send me your full name, home
and shipping address, eBay ID so I can register the transaction with eBay asap.

If you call the fake ebay phone number posted on the fake ebay invoice someone answers in my case “shawn” then when I asked to talk to his supervisor he put”Robert” on. When I caled the phone number “carla” gave me (in one of the emails I posted the phone number) I got a chance to talk to “Carla” and her husband “mike” they sound indian like hindu. I don’t know if this last guy is trying to scam $14,000. I think it may be someone else. The other guys “M.O” seems to be low numbers usually around $2700-$2900 something in the range that someone may think they may risk it just incase it is not a scam they got a deal of a lifetime. That same thought crossed my mind after I spoke with her on the phone. She heard my two young boys in the backround while she assured me that she was not doing this for the money she just thought I was a really good personand I was the first to inquire about it so she was being honest and selling it to me fiirst even with all the interest besides she would never take advantage of someone with small kids. Ya Right!

brief outline of there last one on craigslist

    Hello Robert,
Thank you for your interest in buying my husband’s bike. I’m selling it for $2,600. I wanted to keep the bike but me and my husband left the city for a better job in L.A., so we decided to sell it. The bike is in showroom condition, no mechanical problems, never involved in any type of accident and the mileage is 11,000.It has a clear title and it will come with 2 helmets and 2 safety equipments. We will use eBay Vehicle Purchase protection to secure this transaction.
    Hi Robert,
Thanks for replying.Because of our jobs we don`t have time to stay and meet with all our potential buyers,so we’ve decided to sell it online. That’s why we gave it to a shipping co. that will ship it to the next owner(on my cost). You will have 5 days from the time you receive the bike to inspect it and decide if you want to keep it or not. If by any reason, you aren’t satisfied, you will return the bike to the shipping co. with no expense.

P.S.I forgot to tell that the bike will be shipped from Omaha NE,here is a number where you can reach my husband 402 557 0226.
    my reply
Where is it located? I’m a truck driver so I sure would like to see it in person. no need to ship, i can pick it up cash in hand.

    Hi Robert,
I`m very sorry but i already gave the bike to the shipping company 2 days ago,so they can prepare the shipping,i`ve also paid some fees there.I can send it to you for 5 days inspection period and in case you won`t be satisfied with the vehicle you can return it to me on my cost.I know it’s hard buying something unseen, that’s why I chose this method because eBay is the only co.which can hold your money until you receive it,inspect it and prove with it.If you want to buy it send me your full name and address so we can proceed.

Steve, thanks for dropping by. Browse through the blog and you will see examples of how the criminals arrange payment. For example, the criminal selling this RV has you blindly send the money via Western Union to an individual supposedly a representative of Ebay. Of course, Ebay does not work in this manner, and the ID of the receiver is undoubtedly falsified. Once you send money via Western Union or MoneyGram and the receiver picks is up, it is GONE — no traceability, no nothing.

If the sale amount is “large” (more that $5,000), the criminal will ask you to make two or more payments.

I hope I have answered your question. — Chief

I’ve received responses when submitting abuse reports to abuse[at]level3.com or security.feedback[at]level3.com . Reporting these criminals to their communication conduits could help us get Law Enforcement involved. This pair (?) of scammers is very persistent.

I’ve got the money to buy the camper now but I really need to see it first.

    Hello Scott,

Thank you for your interest in buying our trailer. The trailer is in showroom condition, no mechanical problems and never involved in any type of accident. It has a clear title ,it comes with a new set of tires and the price is $2,300.We are selling it because my husband got a new job and we don’t have time to use it anymore. We will use eBay Vehicle Purchase protection to secure this transaction. If you want to buy it provide me with your full name and address so eBay can contact you to provide all the details of this transaction. You won’t be charged with anything and you cancel the transaction if you don’t want to move forward.
    Waiting for your reply,
    Debra & Mike McCray

low price do to move for job and can’t take it with her/them

Thanks, Richard. Your comment on the “search words” will provoke me to write an article on this specific scammer. It’s called Hash Busting. Good find on your part.

I know, sinking kinda low, but hey .. look at them!!

I fell for it, and gave her my name and address. but that was it. I ask alot of questions in the last, such as her ebay id. if the septic and water tanks had been cleaned out, when the last time it was serviced.. she hasn’t responded again. But I plan on stringing her along. what can we do with their phone number. Is there any sex lines or anything that we can put out there phone number on that cost them money or minutes???

    Here is my correspondence:

Thanks for getting back to me …,
Because of my husband’s job we don’t have time to stay and meet with all our possible buyers so we decided to sell it online.I can ship it to you for 5 days to inspect it,on my cost. My husband and I were almost scammed by this couple. Mike and Elizabeth Shaw. There phone is 402-557-0226 or 402-218-2470. We thought we were purchasing a 1997 Winnebago Adventure for $2800.00. They were insistant of using Ebay buyer protection. We were even looking at it on craig’s list not ebay. They also stated they would ship it to us on there cost for 5 days. Also, stated they were out of town alot and did not have time to meet with potential buyers. Also, stated to send them a money gram before they send the camper. They also stated they were from omaha, NE. I agree these people have to be stopped. They have scammed many people out of thousands of dollars. How do we stop these people. These people also talked like they were from another country. There has to be some way to track there phones or have a IP address on there computer. These people cannot be that smart. As the old saying goes, If it is to good to be true it probably is.

I am the real Kimberly M. Jespersen. The police have notified me twice now (again today) about someone using my name to swindle people out of their money. This is scary and the police have basically told me there is nothing they can do about it. I am NOT selling any motorcycles, RV’s or anything else for that matter. If you see me name come up in anything on EBay or Craigslist…it is definitely a scam! DO NOT SEND MONEY!!!!!

  72. Kim Jespersen said, on October 20, 2010 at 5:55 pm

The police have contacted me that someone is using my name in this scam. In fact, I guess it is still being used. They contacted me about 2 months ago and again today. This is so scary!!!

I think they’ve changed names again. Now it’s Adriana and Mike Kruger of Jefferson City, MO. emails are almost word for word.

    Hi Adriana,

I’m surprised to find out it is located in Missouri since it was listed as being in the northern part of West Virginia. No matter, my schedule is flexible since I’m a retired now from the U.S. Dept. of Defense. A trip to Missouri is an easy thing for me to accomplish. I don’t mind making it easier on you. A quick meeting to inspect, as you offered in your earlier email, would take less time and money than it would for you to ship it. As I’m sure you can understand, I prefer to see an item before I purchase it and Ebay’s buyer protection is not foolproof.
As I asked in my previous email, does the tractor come with the loader, backhoe, and mower attachments as advertised? Also, I would like to know the serial number to validate the model advertised before I make that long of a trip.
Please give me a call so that we may make the arrangements. Thanks, Dxxxx & Lxxxxx

    Hello Dxxxx,

I am very glad to see my tractor is drawing so much attention, I just listed it a few hours ago and got a lot offers on it. Anyways, it’s in great shape, no damages and no mechanical problems. I have the title(clear) in my hand and the tractor’s ready for it’s next owner.
It has 262 hours and I’m letting this beauty go for only $3,600.Inspections are welcome anytime, I’d prefer cash if not, we can use eBay’s Protection program.
Where about are you located?Maybe we can organize an inspection.

They are at it again!! This time they are in Detroit. Her name is Charlotte Harris. I happened to notice that she has used the same letters for her first and last name before. She says that she got the RV in her divorce and wants to sell it for cheap, to get rid of the memories. Also said that it was in storage in Jefferson City Mo. Also had the accent, she’s paying for the shipping, all the same things I just read above.

I don’t know if this is a scam reading all about this stuff you have said Im thinking it is and Im so depressed sigh. Im just starting to reply and I have gotten a few replies this RV is supposed to be in North Carolina and the other person said something about NC. The email name she is using now is blair.gilgen32@comcast.net.

This is the last reply I got from her:
Thanks for being interested in buying my Rv!It`s in perfect condition,no scratches, damages, never been implicated in any accidents, it has only 74,000 miles and the price is $2,800.It has a clear title, free of any liens or loans. Because of my divorce settlement,i own this Rv and as a woman without driver`s license i don`t need it so i`m trying to get rid of it as soon as possible (that`s why i`m selling it so cheap). We will use eBay`s Vehicle Purchase Protection plan for our both safety,i want only legit transactions.Let me know where are you located, maybe we can organize an inspection.
    Have a great day!

My reply is I have friends that live near you that want to come down and see the RV and inspect it for themselves as I live out of state and I want to make sure everything is on the up and up before I do anything. Please give me a timie that would be good for you so that we can come down and take a look thank you for your time.
Im so depressed but I guess I should have known better if it is to good to be true it is Sigh Stupid me Sigh again!!!

Their reply to my last email:
    Hi again,
The RV is at the shipping co.in Jeff City,Mo sealed and ready to ship it,as I got a new job and moved here to start over.I have a contract with eBay so the deal must go through them.I’m very busy with my job,so I can’t meet you in person, reason for why I chose to sell my RV online.
If you want to continue,I will need your name&address. After I receive your info,I’ll forward it to eBay and they will send us both invoices.eBay will instruct you on how to make a refundable payment. They hold the funds until the RV is delivered to buyer, inspected and until he confirms that has received the RV in it’s described condition.According to eBay you have 5 days to decide if you want to keep, and if eBay should release the money to me or not.If for any reason you won’t like the RV (I don’t see that happening) eBay will refund you and I will instruct the shipping co. to store the RV until I find a new buyer. It’s not necessary to ship the RV back. If you want to buy it,please send me your info so we can proceed.

    Thank you,here is my number(573 298 4807)

Same thing she sounds like Indian decent!

    Well she’s at it again … Craigslist a 2005 2500 hd for 4300$
Same handle, Blair.gilgen32@Comcast.net. I told my husband it had to be a scam since we own the same truck in a diff color with close to the same amount of miles and they are worth at least 3 times that amount. After her last email about shipping me the truck and mixing up her info about the truck I kinda got mad and sent her a return email calling her out on the scam and reported her to Craigslist… 🙂 hope she hasn’t taken advantage of anyone. Some people need a moral bootcamp!

  78. Chief said, on June 2, 2011 at 9:04 pm

Jennifer, it’s sad to say, but Craigslist will do nothing. The best we can do is flag the ad.
