I too almost fell for the Philip Morgan scam on a 2005 Honda gold wing 1800 for sale..candy black cherry. Price was $4900. He was being sent to Afghanistan etc. etc. I went to actually send money via “money gram” and the office said they do not do business with E bay.
Lesson learned…will not buy anything unless I can physically look at it.

PHILIP MORGAN anything with his name on it is a scam!!!
    Buyer beware.

KD, thanks for your comment and the text of the criminal’s email. You are correct in that the efforts of all the anonymous posters here are what makes this “warning system” work. Be sure to tell all your friends and family of the techniques these scammers use; education (as you found out!) is a great tool in helping prevent this fraud.

There are other sites such as scamwarners.com & fightthescams.com in this same battle. Perhaps one day we can get our collective acts together and join forces.

    and

    Hello again,
I`m located in Great Falls,MT (the truck is here with me) right now because i got a new job here, the thing is i`m very busy and i don`t have time to stay and meet with all my potential buyers, that is why i gave to a shipping company that will ship it to the next owner(on my cost). I will make the deal only to eBay. I am a member of the eBay buyer protection program and using this service you will get a 7 days testing period after delivery. During that 7 days testing period I will not be getting any money. I need to know if you are interested in buying it so I can ask eBay to send you the details on how this works. If interested please include in your next email your contact info for eBay ( full name, full address and phone # ) so we can get things started.

Thanks and have a great day !

how awful when people really are in that situation.

As I’ve said before I am not able to leave the unit.So that means I wont be able to meet you personaly. That’s the reason I set up things this way……
I got contracts with eBay for both parts protection and also I have shipping set up with no extra fees for you.Someone owns me a favor so this will be almost free for me.I understand that you would like to test it before buy it and I understand this. For this the eBay protection plans it’s.In case the vehicle it’s not as I’ve told you you can send it back to me( on my expenses) and eBay will refurn you the money.
Sound complicated but it’s very easy in fact.
Don’t imagine I got the vehicle here with me at unit because it’s not. It’s already at shipping company , I signed a contract with them .They also filled out a formulary with the vehicle condition , technical details and after the vehicle was packed and sealed under my signature. The company isn’t authorize to unpack the vehicle unless I m there .
Please let me know if you would like to continue under eBay terms.

    Hello,

I decided to sell this Camry because my unit has been sent to Afghanistan. I will not be able to drive it all this time and I sure don’t want to get old in garage. The price it’s low because I need to sale it in 1 week. I am after a fast transaction, with no delays. That is why I decided to lower the price, to avoid wasting time with negotiations and find a buyer as soon as possible.
The car has no damage, no scratches or dents, no hidden defects. It’s in immaculate condition, meticulously maintained and hasn’t been involved in any accident. I do have the title , clear, under my name. The car has 26,000 miles, year 2007.
If you are interested the price it’s $5,800.
The car is in Great Falls, MT, in case it gets sold I will take care of shipping.
Let me know if you are interested.

sad part was the vin number checked out i had a local dealership run the vin. so sometimes you find a deal sometimes you get scammed my advice is go with it but just know, western union, money gram … these are one way transfers. DO NOT use these forms of wire transfers.. and when ebay gives you a case number. cal hem to verify. what do you have to lose right……

    thanx for reading guys

My boyfriend and I replied to a craigslist post about a 2008 Yamaha Rhino for sale for $2,500. I said the price had to be wrong. My boyfriend emailed him and this is what he wrote back with… We said we were interested but how would we do the transaction because we are weary if this is legit and the Rhino is in good condition and he replied with the 2nd email pasted below. WHAT a sad scam. People using the Military as an excuse. That is just sick.

I have posted the vehicle in several cities in order to get a fast deal and that’s why you founded the posting placed in a different location.
For the payment I would like to use eBay’s buyer protection plan as a third party. They will keep your money
until you get the vehicle and will release it to me after inspection period is over and you agree to keep the vehicle.

To eliminate any concerns you will have 5 days to inspect the vehicle before committing to buy, eBay will
release the funds to me ONLY after inspection period is over and you agree to keep the unit.

If you are interested in buying it just mail me back with:
    – Your Full Name – Required by eBay (You’ll receive important guidelines + instructions from them.)
    – Your Shipping Address and Phone Number – Required by the Shipping company (They will call you with delivery/pickup instructions 1 day before arrival of parcel)
I’ll start the official procedure and eBay will contact you about this.

I got the same email today. I agreed to purchase and was sent the following email to send the money. SUCH A SCAM!! I knew something was wrong, NOBODY sells this kind of car for so cheap. This guy was on Craigslist same name APRIL SMITH

eBay sent this message to Mel.
Your registered name is included to show this message originated from eBay.

Important notice for transaction Case ID: 4507874137
Invoice for Safe Pay Transaction Case ID 4507874137 between April Smith, as the Seller and Mel, as the buyer.
Please follow our instructions to complete the transaction safely.

    Dear customer,

For a better deployment of the transaction between eBay Safe Pay and Western Union, we would like to bring to your attention the following:

Starting with 11/01/2009, Western Union implemented a 10% fee of the total amount that you are about to send for items purchased on eBay.com website. Once again, we would like you to know that eBay Safe Pay is a department intended for payments to items which are not listed on eBay.com website. Following referrals by several clients and to facilitate a good development of the payment that is going to be made to eBay Safe Pay (for products that are not listed on eBay.com), we suggest that when you go to Western Union to send money for your vehicle not to specify that the funds are being sent to a product from eBay.com website because you will be charged with the 10% fee that we mentioned about.

Therefore, in order to avoid this impediment, you must not specify that the funds are being sent for a product that is bought from eBay.com. As you read in the invoice that you got from us, in order to make a payment through Western Union, you will have to go to a Western Union office (we suggest 7-Eleven or Rite Aid stores) with cash and fill in the Send Money form (you will find a sample in the invoice) with your personal information in the Senders Name space and with our Regional Manager name and address (which are also located at the bottom of the invoice) in the Receivers Name space. After the transaction has been made, you have to confirm the payment by sending the receipts to our fax +1 (206) 600-4524 or by replying to this email address with a scanned image of the receipts.

Thank you for your understanding and we are committed to making your eBay experiences pleasant and fulfilling.

    Thank you,
Trust and Safety Department eBay Inc.

Jennifer, thanks for dropping a comment. I would ask that you do your part by spreading the word to your friends and family on how these criminals work these deals. An educated public results in lower cash flow for scammers.

I saw a 2004 V6 Toyota Camry with incredable low miles and low price on the cragslist. The sellor did not leave his contact info, so I wrote “A Smith” a email and got the following email about the car’s info and payment method…

As I’ve told you , I am in Great Falls, MT in a military base getting ready for Afghanistan. I do a special training program each day and I am not allowed to get out of the unit or give calls whenever I want. The shipping wont be a problem and I will do it at no cost to you because it will be made by the army and will take 4 to 5 working days. You will receive the car along with all the documents including title, bill of sale, full service records and more. Because it is a large transaction we will complete the deal using an authorized third party like eBay, using their Business Purchase Protection Program .The payment will be handled by eBay and you will benefit of the 5 day inspection time period and the option to accept or reject the car on my expense. If you are still interested just send me your full name and shipping address.
I will forward your info and they will notify you about our deal.
Hope to hear from you soon

What r the other options on payment & shipping as I have researched the bike is not the type of item that would qualify for this program. I know there is a UPS freight with a COD option.

You can call me when u can

Is there any way to put a stop to this guy? Justin Neal tried to sell me a 1990 Vanagon camper (probably worth $12,000) for $2800 shipped. I didn’t fall for it, but sent a couple of emails back and determined that it’s probably a real person on the other end. Seems like he has been waiting to ship out to Afghanistan for years now…
