    Please somebody can help me:
There is a person selling a car in Ecuador (South America). This person and his car are in London. She wrote me saying that if I am interested in this bussines, she would use the ebuy Motors Purchase starting the bussines because is safe. This same words she sent to another people in Perú. I read that in ebay Motors Purchase, Then I don.t trust…..
Sorry my English is no so good.

  2. Chief said, on August 19, 2010 at 4:55 pm

Wiliam, your English is much better than my Spanish. You are wise. Do not trust this person. Ebay does not guarantee any purchases similar to the one you described. No one with a brain would ship a car from London to Eucador free. This seller is a a criminal.

Good luck finding a car in Eucador. — Chief

I found a car, and they talked to me right away about buying it. I’m not sure if its a spoof or not because for one, I am going through eBay and none of their emails from ‘eBay’ are showing up in my My eBay account. There were some misspellings, and I’m not sure if its fraud or not. If you can help me I will highly appreciate it.

    Thanks,

    Melissa

Hi, I recently found a used RV on another website than ebay and I ask the seller about we can make this deal, He said that he won’t be able to make a face to face deal because he moved to another region in the country. He want to make a private auction for me on ebay motor. After, he explained me the process. first, I will send my payment to ebay motor, after that he will ship the RV and when I will have the RV, I will have up to 5 days to inspect the vehicule and comfirm the payment at ebay motor, so ebay motor will now gave him the money.
This will be the first time I buy a vehicule on ebaymotor and I just want to know if you agree with what the seller said and if it is okay.
    Thanks

    Sylvain,

Only items purchased on the ebay site are covered by this process. Read carefully this site: http://pages.ebay.com/ebaymotors/buy/purchase-protection/

    Excerpts:
    Important security reminders:
    * Vehicle Purchase Protection is only offered on transactions that are completed on eBay.
    * eBay discourages the use of offline transactions, including payments made via Moneygram or Western Union. These types of payments are often associated with fraudulent transactions.
    * Transactions that take place on eBay can be confirmed by seeing the item listed in the “Won” section on your My eBay summary page.

    Hello ,

You are e-mailing me about the RV I have for sale.First of all I would like to let you know that I won’t be able to close a face to face deal because I moved to Whitehorse ,Yt a month ago ,the vehicle is at the shipping company in Whitehorse YT ,with all the papers necessary to sell it.It’s in great condition.I will only sell it through a third party company that will handle shipping and payment in which both me and buyer are secure. If you are interested in this transaction e-mail me back with the information you need to know more. Also, sorry for replying you so late but i was a little bit tied up with my job and i was unable to access my e-mail address.

    Hi,
The price is C$12350 with shipping included in Quebec.
The RV is in Whitehorse where i lived before prepared for shipping process at the shipping company.
The shipping company it’s affiliated with eBay Motors and they will take care of shipping process and eBay Motors of payment process.
I’m affiliated to eBay Motors Purchase Protection Program so we can use it to complete this transaction safe for both of us.
If you are decided to buy it, I can make a private auction just for you on eBay so you can purchase it there. That way you will receive assistance for the purchase, paperwork, title transfer and an extended warranty. If you want more details about how will work this deal please e-mail me and i will be more than glad to explain the transaction steps.

    Hi,

No mechanical problems,it’s in perfect condition, very well maintained,no accidents.Yes the price is C$12350 with shipping included in Quebec city.
    Here is how it works:

You send me your full name and your shipping address so I can initiate the
transaction with eBay Motors. They will contact you with further details regarding the
payment and the shipping process. You submit the payment to eBay Financial
Department, eBay confirms the payment and the shipping company release the shipment. You will receive the RV in 5 days in front of your door.
You have a 5 days for inspection from the moment the RV arrives before you confirm
the deal and eBay forwards the payment to me or you cancel the deal and you get
your money back and return the RV free of charge.
Basically eBay Department holds your money until you confirm that the RV is
what you have expected and you want to buy it. It is not a sight unseen deal.
On the other hand I can ship the RV knowing that eBay has your money and you
    wont dissapear with my RV.
    We are both covered.
Sorry for the long emails I have tried to explain the entire process.
This is the best and secure way for both of us to make business.

    Thanks,
    Sylvain

Sylvain, this is 100% scam. There are hundreds of similar examples on this website. If you are not on an Ebay website, Ebay does not offer any protection — PERIOD.

Can’t believe it. I have been corresponding with an individual who claim to be an ebay member, Hailey Johnson (magnum6633@gmail.com). He claims to own a 2007 Escalade selling for $8,000.00. I almost fell for it until he sent me this link on ebay motors VPP transaction. I tried to call ebay via telephone with negative result. I then tried to compare the VPP logo with ebay purchase protection logo (no match). I was suspicious of the price from the begining. So beware

  10. JL said, on March 24, 2011 at 11:39 am

My scammer was “Kathryn Barrie” from Cornerbrook NL, who’d moved to Spain and was selling their wheelchair accessible van. I too became suspicious when the eBay Motors invoice required payment via VPP to a bank in Spain.

Oh, and my opening emails were almost identical to those quoted above: Moved away, can’t meet face-to-face, sorry for the long emails… Yeesh.

What if they gave you the car vin #?

  12. Chief said, on May 23, 2011 at 5:06 pm

    Ricardo,

I am interpreting your inquiry to be, “How can it be a scam if the seller gives me the VIN number of the vehicle?

The criminal simply steals all the information from an auction or another online classified ad. Place the VIN into a Google Search and see what pops up!

  13. Bojan said, on December 1, 2011 at 3:20 am

I just almost bought a car like this. First I was suspicious, then I got an email from “ebay” with the identical things I just read here. That’s when I thought it actually could be legit because it’s ebay and they won’t allow stupid things. I then asked the person if we could meet so I can see the car myself and this is the answer I got: “I’m sorry to disappoint you but the car is already at the shipping company in Cape Coral, Florida sealed and ready for the shipping.
I have a contract with eBay so this deal must go through them.
I’m very busy with my job and I’m getting off the town so I can’t meet in person with you so this is the reason why I chose to sell my car over the internet.
According with the eBay you have 10 days from the time you receive the car to inspect it and decide if you want to keep it or not.
If you want to buy it please email me your full name and address for shipping so I can initiate the transaction through eBay.
After that they will contact you for all necessary information about this transaction (terms, buyer protection, payment instructions, invoice, etc.)

    Thank you
    Jennifer Teller”

  14. brandon brooks said, on January 17, 2012 at 4:24 am

    Hi again,

Here is how the transaction works:
    1. Actually the car is at the shipping company crated and ready to be
    shipped;
    2. I open the transaction between me and you with them;
    3. You make the payment to the ebay agent (not to me) and I will start the
shipping; (I will pay for it)
    4. You will receive the car, since the day you receive the car you will
have a 5 days testing period to check if everything it’s alright with the
car (all this time your money are in a safe place)
    5. After the 5 days testing period you will have to take your final
decision if you want to buy the car or not.
    6. a) If you decide to buy the car, you can keep the car and only then I
get the money from the ebay agent and the deal is done.
with it or the title, you will be refund with 100% from entire amount that
you paid for the car, and I get the car back on my expense and the deal is
    off.
I sent your details to eBay,you will receive the invoice soon.I will wait
for you to make the payment to eBay so the delivery company can begin the
delivery process because the car is already in their custody. When you`ll
receive the car you`ll have 5 days of inspection like I told you before and
in case you won`t like it the delivery company will store it until I will
find another buyer so you don’t need to send it back to me and eBay will
send all your money back. I will also send all the paperwork and a bill of
sale which will be already signed and notarized onto your name. If you
decide to keep it all you have to do is to sign the transfer papers and
announce eBay to release the funds to me.

    Have a blessed day!
    Brenda Shirey

I saw an ad in usedregina trying to sell 2004 Toyota sienna xle limited edition for $2550, this persons email is shown below…This person mentioned the name as Angela hopper – angelahopper2011@gmail.com.

Hi There, I’m asking $2,550 for this ’2004 Toyota Sienna XLE LIMITED with 115,088km’s in white color. It’s a Canadian vehicle and is in an excellent condition(Clear Title in Hand). I just got divorced and I decided to move(along with my daughter) closer to my parents. Right now I’m located in Salem/OR and the vehicle is here with me. The van was awarded to me in our divorce. Being a single mother and not having a driver’s license I decided to sell it. I am not in a position that allows me to travel, and because I wish to sell it as fast and easy as possible, I decided that the best way to let it go was online. I am not interested in taking a trade in with me to the dealership because I knew that would be a hassle. Because it’s such a large transaction, and because the vehicle will be shipped from US to Canada, I will complete the deal only using an authorized 3rd party. I’m currently signed up for a protection program offered by eBay motors and I would like to close the deal through them. I believe this protects both buyer and seller and it’s the right way to do this. Basically eBay motors will secure the funds until you receive and inspect the van. This way you will be able to inspect the vehicle before I receive any money from you and I know that you have the money and you are not just fooling around, hope you understand me. If you like to receive more information about the van, more details about the deal and hopefully if you want to continue please contact me.
Here are the pictures with the van : http://sherrie.dphoto.com/#/album/5a761g/
I don’t want to offend you, but the van is priced for a fast sale so please if you intend to apply for a loan or financing do not reply to this message!

    Thank you for your time,

    Hi,
I found a 2007 GMC Sierra HD on Kijiji for $17850. It has many options on it including a new tires, three inch suspension lift, sold air intake, throttle body spacer, opened up exhaust remote start etc. the add was listed in Ontario under the heading when i searched it and the add listed the vehicle location as being in Hamilton. I e-mailed the seller and and couple days later was e-mailed back. The seller said in the truck was located in Newfoundland at his parents place where he had been living, but had moved to Spain a month ago to run three antique shops he owns there. I said I was intersted in the truck but thought that Newfoundland was a bit far to buy a vehicle from. He asked for my phone number which I gave him and a day later he called me. He said that it was hard to sell a big truck like this in Newfoundland and after listing the truck there and dropping the price a few times with no luck, he had decided to list it for sale in Ontario, Quebec and Manitoba.
He said he felt ebay VPP would be the safest way for both buyer and seller in this case to perform the transaction. He also said he would pay shipping and if I was nt happy with the truck it would go back , no harm no foul.
I got him to agree to drop the price to seventeen and he said I would have to pay tax on it coming into Ontario because it was coming from out of another province so we agreed to split the tax and he gave me another $1100 off .
I agreed and he contacted e-Bay . They sent me the documentation which included a used vehicle affidavit, a form detailing all of our agreements which also has all of the rules governing the transaction, and e-Bay also sent the account information I would need to perform a transaction which can only be done in a bank-to-bank wire transfer. It gives the name and address of the third party account holder , bank address , BIC ( swift code) , account number and IBAN.
It states that the account holder is a subsidiary third party employee at eBay VPP to hold and disburse your funds according to your instructions.

I have been reading the comments left on here by some who have been scammed and am just wondering if this sounds lejit to you ?

    Alex,

Definitely not legit. Ebay does not provide the service proposed by the seller.

I would encourage you to file a report at http://www.ic3.gov/default.aspx … Law enforcement uses that database to aggregate cases. You do not have to be a U.S. citizen to file a report there.

Feel free to comment again and paste the text from the criminal’s email … it helps others find our warnings.

I’ve found two identical cars for sale on Craigslist. the price & mileage were the same. The description was different.

The email response was the same exact, but it came from two different email addresses. I corresponded with them a few times just to verify that these are scams. She said she has a throat infection and therefore cant talk on phone. I’m sending you both email addresses which they replied from
